The Log

Although id had a few quick paddles on my freshly oiled chambered paulownia log it wasn’t till we hit the points of Coolangatta that I had  a chance to really put the new stick through its passes. Here are some pics of the new design sliding down the line at snapper rocks.

Snapper

Continuing north our next stop was the gold coast for a few days to see good friends Leroy and Jules from the kallalu art gallery. Staying at Leroy’s pad looking over rainbow bay Andy and I made the most of the fun shoulder high runners out front while Scott took his life in his hands and swam out in the packed line up to snap of a few pics

Crescent head

First stop on our annual roady north was crescent head. Although the surf was inconsistent the sand was near perfect on the point. Andy Scott and I settled in to surf trip mode surfing three days away in the sunshine. Sharing waves with the Bevan boys, ash, sash and Matty c who were also making there way north to the festival!

Summer sessions

Over the summer months aside from working in the bay I managed to score more than a handful of memorable sessions. The pick of my quiver this season was a 5’0’ Skip fry style fish and a 5’6” cambered timber finless fish!

DAY TRIPPIN WITH JAKEY...

Jake came over from Sydney to spend a couple weeks hanging out and help make some new boards...

OILING THE TIMBER

After a summer of hard work, here's the first of the new timber boards mick and i have been working on to get oiled up. watch the board come to life...

TIMBER

Over the summer months i've gotten stuck into a handful of timber projects that i've been tinkering around with over the last year. With the help of my brother-in-law Mick, we finalized a couple of chambered Paulownia designs finished only with natural tung oil! A lot of blood sweat and tears went into whittling these sticks but totally worth it now we have them finished...

LOVE TIPH X

Lately here at Hightide surfboards we have been fortunate enough to get a helping hand on the design front from Tiphaine De Fleurette. Here's a few pieces she has been working on over summer, amazing!

FOAM SYMMETRY LAUNCH - DEC 2012

Scotty and I made our way up to the big smoke in early December to celebrate the launch of new surf mag foam symmetry. It was great to catch up with the Bevan boys and share a few waves and ciders to kick of the cool new mag!

ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER... - DECEMBER 2012

One of the first cabs in the rank when I got back in the swing of shaping was this beautiful custom noserider for Dean Darby and the first Hightide surfboard to hit the waters of W.A. hears a little flick dean put together of his new stick in action!

BACK.TO.WORK. - NOVEMBER 2011

Settling back into the shaping bay I took the opportunity to get my eye in on a couple of new designs i'd been thinking about over my time away. The end result was a 5ft twin fin fish and a 6’3’’ 90s style thruster short board. Not long after the two new sticks were cured the waves turned on providing the perfect platform for some testing.

AUSTRALIA!!! - OCTOBER 2011

After flying from Hanoi to Singapore to brisbaine I spent a couple of weeks surfing, catching up with mates and working my way down the east coast of Australia towards my home in Victoria. Passing through the sunshine state in mid spring the surf was seasonally small, but I managed to have a handful of sneaky sessions at tee tree and snapper rocks while catching up with mates and easing back into the swing of life back in Australia. Continuing south I stopped off at my sisters place at Arrawarra to catch up with Yans, Mick and my new little niece Noa. Hanging out for a week, mick and I lucked in to a super fun session at the point before I made my way back to Victoria and home...
